Spraying a trail kills the foragers on it, not the nest, so a colony nearby simply sends more. If ants keep returning to the same route, switch that route to bait stations and stop spraying it, because the bait has to be carried home intact to work. Use the spray on entry points and elsewhere instead.

If ants keep returning after a full treatment cycle, if trails appear in more than one room, or if the ants are small, pale and in a heated building such as a block of flats. That last pattern suggests pharaoh ants, which spread when sprayed and need a specialist baiting programme. Look for a qualified pest controller with BPCA membership.
