Bed Bug Killer Powders

Into the places bed bugs harbour rather than across open surfaces: bed frame joints and screw holes, slats, headboard fixings, skirting board gaps, and cracks in nearby furniture. Apply a light, barely visible dusting. Check the label for which surfaces the product can be used on, and follow it for use on or near mattresses.

Less than most people apply. A thin film is the aim. A visible heap gets avoided, gets on bedding, and gets cleaned up - none of which helps.

Powders keep working as long as they stay dry and undisturbed. Reapply after vacuuming or cleaning, if the layer has been covered over, or in line with the label's reapplication guidance.

Apply as directed on the label and keep it out of direct contact with people and pets - into joints, gaps and voids rather than on sleeping surfaces. Avoid breathing in the dust when applying, and let it settle before making the bed up. Read the label for any restrictions on bedroom use.

Powder is one part of a bed bug treatment and rarely enough alone. Use interceptor traps under bed legs to confirm whether activity is falling, wash and hot-tumble bedding, vacuum thoroughly and empty the vacuum outside, and treat harbourages as well as the bed itself. Bed bugs commonly need repeat treatment over several weeks, since eggs hatch after the first application.

If activity continues after a full treatment cycle, if the infestation has spread beyond one room, or if the property is shared or a flat where the source may be next door. Bed bugs are one of the harder pests to clear as a DIY job and there is no shame in escalating.
