Electric Flea Killer Traps

They use gentle heat and light to imitate a warm body, which draws adult fleas towards the unit. Fleas land on a sticky pad and are held there, so you can see what you are catching.

The traps use no insecticide - fleas are caught on a sticky pad. They are mains powered and sit at floor level, so site them where the cable is not a trip or chew hazard, and keep the unit out of reach of children and pets.

Put it where your pet sleeps or spends most of its time - beside bedding, in the living room, or on carpet near soft furnishings. Fleas are drawn to warmth at floor level, so keep the unit on the floor rather than on a shelf, and run it overnight when adult fleas are most active.

Leave it running. Fleas emerge in waves rather than all at once, so running it continuously gives it the best chance of catching them as they become active.

Change it every 2-4 weeks, or sooner once it is covered with fleas and dust. A pad that has filled up or dried out will not hold anything, so check it rather than assuming it is still working.

If the pad is clean and the light is on, the trap is probably in the wrong place: move it to where your pet actually rests and run it overnight in a darkened room, since competing light reduces what it draws in. If the pad is filling but you are still being bitten, the trap is working and the issue is that it only catches adults - the eggs, larvae and pupae in the carpet are untouched. Pair it with a flea spray or a powder that treats the floor itself.

An electric trap deals with adult fleas. Most of a flea population is not adult - it is eggs and pupae in carpet, bedding and floorboard gaps, and pupae can sit dormant for weeks before hatching. Treat the environment as well as trapping, wash pet bedding hot, vacuum thoroughly and often, and keep every pet on its own veterinary flea treatment. On its own, no. An electric trap reduces adult fleas and shows you whether numbers are falling, which is genuinely useful. Clearing an infestation also needs the eggs and larvae dealt with, so use it alongside a treatment for carpets and pet resting areas from our flea control range.
