FAQs: Bed Bug Control Kits

Our kits typically include a combination of bed bug traps, insect sprays and killer powders. Contents vary by kit - check the product description for what is in the one you are buying.

Use the traps to monitor, the spray on the bed and surrounding surfaces the label permits, and the powder in cracks and crevices where bed bugs harbour. Treat the harbourages as well as the bed itself - frame joints, screw holes, headboard fixings and skirting gaps.

They are intended for use around beds and sleeping areas. Follow the label directions for each item, allow treated surfaces to dry before the room is used, and keep powder out of direct contact with sleeping surfaces.

You may see activity fall within a few days, but full clearance usually takes several weeks. Eggs are protected from most treatments and hatch after the first application, so repeat treatment is part of the process rather than a sign something has gone wrong.

Traps are generally single-use or limited-use; sprays and powders can be reapplied as directed. Refills are available separately.

Wash and hot-tumble bedding, vacuum thoroughly including the bed frame and skirting, and empty the vacuum outside straight away. Reduce clutter around the bed so there are fewer places to harbour, and use interceptor traps under the legs as your measure of whether numbers are falling.

If activity continues after a full treatment cycle, if it has spread beyond one room, or if you are in a flat or shared building where the source may be a neighbouring property.
