Carpet Beetle Control Kits

Use traps to monitor, spray visible beetles and affected areas, and apply powder into cracks, along carpet edges and around skirting boards for residual control.

These are intended for use in the home. Follow the label directions for each item, keep children and pets away during application, and allow treated surfaces to dry and the room to ventilate before it is used again.

Reapply sprays or powders strictly as directed on the product labels. In most cases, this means an initial treatment followed by a repeat treatment if activity continues or returns. You may also need to reapply after vacuuming, cleaning, or wiping treated areas, as this can reduce effectiveness.

Check monitoring traps every few days at first, then weekly once activity starts to reduce. Replace traps if they are full, dusty, damaged, or no longer catching insects. Continue monitoring and treatment until activity has stopped.

Almost always a missed harbourage rather than a failed product. Larvae feed where nothing disturbs them: under the edges of fitted carpet, beneath heavy furniture that never moves, inside wardrobes, and in voids where old wool debris or a bird or rodent nest has collected. If treatment covered the open floor and not those places, it treated where the beetles are not. Lift carpet edges, move furniture and check the backs of wardrobes before re-treating.

To prevent reinfestation, regularly vacuum carpets, rugs, and upholstered furniture to remove lint, pet hair, and debris that attract carpet beetles. Store natural fibre clothing and fabrics in sealed containers and check for signs of beetles before bringing second-hand items into your home.

If damage keeps appearing after a full treatment cycle, if it has spread across several rooms, or if you suspect the source is an old bird or rodent nest in a loft, chimney or wall void you cannot reach safely. Look for a qualified pest controller with BPCA membership.
